Abstract

The article postulates that the simbolic mapuche language sets quite complex problems for different disciplines. The author considers that an adquate interpretation is required to consider it within the framework of an asymmetry between language and cul tures; it is claimed that the traditional simbolic axes play an important role in the formation of the new simbolic religious forms which are assumed by religious mapuche subjects today. In a more specific sese, the view is held that this analysis of the process of semantic innova tion of the simbolic language is part of a permanent resignificance of the traditional language, crucial for understanding the present religious discourse of the mapuche people.
