Cultos y religiones populares en America Latina: identidades entre la tradicion y la globalizacion

Abstract

Globalization has provoked a cultural change that affects religious practices and beliefs, but the religious worships and identities of Latin American people instead of reformulating themselves under a secularizing tendency have been transformed and, in some cases, revitalized. The communication media revolution, migratory processes and increasing information streams, goods and people, have been erasing old barriers and boundaries, but they have not being able to overthrow the ancient symbolic barriers of the religious identity which has powerful roots in collective mentalities.
