On «pulchrum» in the So-Called New Artistic Practices: Xavier Zubiri for Contemporary Art

Abstract

The relevance of the notion of reality in Xavier Zubiri’s philosophical perspective is found to be especially oriented towards beauty (Pulchrum) and the three strata that it crosses in artistic emotion. This actualization of what is real produced in the Zubirinian aesthetic permits us, in parallel, to relate this to the
creative focus of the most recent contemporary art and to consider the connections that new artistic practices could have with the Basque philosopher’s discourse, thus establishing that the prominence of what is real guides the concerns, interests and approaches of this century’s e artists
