Abstract

(It is claimed that, in Spanish, personal pronouns and the grammatical category of person are two different, though related, systems. The category of person is an inflectional class formally present in the verb, but representing a morphsyntact classification of the sentence subjects. Grammatical person is the axis of the organization of a specific class of words, namely, the pronouns, which are not a functional class, strictly speaking, but a type of words with its specific grammatical characteristics, and especially its own semantic field.)
