This article provides the evidence for the origins and destiny of a scarcely known daguerreotype portrait of Andrés Bello. It locates the evidence in an epistolary exchange between Andrés Bello and Manuel Ancízar, who had every intention of using it as the basis for an oil portrait to be included in the collection of the National Library of Colombia. The article argues that their exact location was not known until Jorge Ancízar-Sordo located them, thanks to the insistence of Pedro Grases, at the National Museum of Colombia.
